The Technology in Music and Related Arts (TIMARA) department at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music is excited to welcome Hunter Brown as a visiting assistant professor. Hunter is a TIMARA alum, having received his Bachelor’s of Music in Percussion Performance and Technology in Music and the Related Arts from Oberlin. He also holds a Masters of Arts in Digital Musics from Dartmouth College and is currently studying towards a PhD in Music Composition at the University of Chicago.

Hunter is a composer, music technologist, and improviser based in Chicago, Illinois. His musical practice focuses on creating fluid musical spaces by enabling unpredictable, spontaneous, and idiosyncratic interactions with digital media. In particular, his music explores the aesthetics of digital materiality, glitch, and sonic extremes within the contexts of electroacoustic music. Outside of academia, Hunter acts as technical director for Ensemble Dal Niente and runs the record label Party Perfect!!! alongside collaborator Dominic Coles.

Hunter is coming onboard just as we say goodbye to longtime VAP and TIMARA alum Eli Stine, who recently moved to Seattle to work on cutting edge spatial audio research with META.

We look forward to all that Hunter will bring to the TIMARA community and the innovative projects he will be working on. Welcome back Hunter!
